Dear Delegates,

 

            It is our utmost pleasure to welcome you to the thirteenth edition of Washington Academy Model of United Nations (WAMUN) 2017! In all of our 12 committees, you will have the opportunity to not only discuss some of the most globally pressing issues, but also to exchange different perspectives with students from various schools around our home city of Caracas. Working with people from a diverse set of backgrounds will challenge and improve your thinking, allowing you to become more engaged and knowledgeable members of our increasingly interconnected world.

 

            The WAMUN staff has been working incessantly over the last few months to provide you with an unparalled substantive experience. The committee chairs are all experts on their topics, for they spent a great deal of time researching and writing your booklets in order to ensure that all delegates are prepared to engage in active and lively debate. Most of them are also MUN veterans, who are excited to share their passion for parliamentary procedure with you while facilitating productive and engaging discussions.

 

Both of us have been attending MUN’s for 6 years and still look back at those weekends as some of the highlights of our time at high school. The first few conferences we attended opened our eyes and expanded our perspectives, and it is because of these remarkable opportunities that we have poured our hearts and souls into making WAMUN XIII the best we’ve had. We sincerely hope that you find your time at WAMUN as nurturing as it was for us. This kind of activity will provide you with the perfect platform to understand the dynamics of our world, and allow you to think thoroughly about how the choices we make today will impact the world we will live in tomorrow. Take the time to dive into the nuances of your topics, push yourself to work with people who have drastically different perspectives, and make sure that you are always taking risks. If you do that, I truly believe that you will emerge from the conference a more passionate and confident delegate, student, and person.
