HUMAN RIGHTS

COUNCIL

Brief topic summary:

Topic A: Drones' Violation of Human Rights

In today's world, it has become the norm to come across someone who owns and uses a commercial drone for entertainment or professional purposes. The use of these drones is not illegal, but some concerns regarding the violation of some basic rights can and are being raised. Taking into account the anonymity a device such as this one gives, and the range it can be interacted with, one might use it for espionage and violate one's right to privacy without being traced. This is only one case in which drones raise concerns to the general public, so you as delegates of the Human Rights Council must agree on the best way possible to act on such an issue, never forgetting the pros and cons technology such as UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicle) provides to the public, organizations and governments as a whole.

Topic B: Persecution of Freedom of Expression and Association in Latin America.

Freedom of Expression and Association are two Human Rights that provide protection for the manifestation of ideas and the beliefs one holds dear. These are only a few of the basic moral principles the world population has decided on to let ideas be spoken without fear and organizations outside the government be shielded by law. These rights highlight that every inclusive society is constructed upon cooperation, collaboration, and tolerance. With this being said, the ongoing violation of these freedoms on countries that have signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is unacceptable and consequences must be faced. Delegates must identify which nations are not withholding the expression of the fundamental values which are shared by all members of the international community and then enact actions to those countries always taking into considerations the scope of influence the HRC possesses.
