HUMAN RIGHTS
COUNCIL
MINIWAMUN
Brief topic summary:
Topic A: The use, construction and implementation of advance and autonomous weapons (such as killer robots, incendiary weapons, cluster munitions, etc.)
Weaponry has evolved as humans develop new and easier ways to harm each other. Killer robots, incendiary weapons and cluster munitions are only some examples of weapons that are of clear overkill and are only intended to make people suffer. Even though war appears to have no rules, there exist a number of treaties that try to regulate the use of weapons that only exist to provide excessive damage. As the Human Right's Council, delegates must be prepared to defend the right to life and find a middle ground to answer the questions of, when is a weapon to destructive? Should they be allowed?
Topic B: Human clones and the international Human Rights: "Act against humanity or Scientific Revolution"
Scientific breakthroughs are something humanity has always rejoiced as they can provide new ways for human beings to enjoy their life to the fullest. Now a day, human cloning appears to be a possibility, but is it okay to play god and create life? Is life something we humans can control? Does this new life form created have the same rights as the organism he was created from? These are the questions the Human Right's Council must answer in order to provide a new set of rules and a final solution to the question of cloning.
