COUNTER-TERRORISM

COMMITTEE

Brief topic summary:

Topic A: Counter Nuclear-Terrorism

Over the last few decades, nuclear technology has become a common source of interest for nations all around the world, not only because of its possible energetic implementations, but also for of its sheer destructive capabilities. Because of this, many treaties have been established in order to regulate the use of such a destructive weapon. However, it has become clear that some organizations and nations are not willing to follow these guidelines so it is essential that the world prepare for the catastrophe that might happen. Your duty lies in creating a framework, which not only tackles the issue of terrorist organizations possessing such destructive weaponry, but also reinforces the existing guidelines in order to prevent other incidents from occurring in the near and far future.

Topic B: The Role of Sovereignty in Terrorist Response

Sovereignty is the authority a country has in order to govern itself without outside intervention. It has been a pivotal need for any nation since the beginning of the United Nations; nonetheless, as international threats continue to escalate, the question of whether or not any nation might act on another based on irrefutable evidence of possible worldwide danger in their territory has to be addressed. It is your duty as delegates to decide if it is crucial to defend this basic authority or to ignore it for the safety of the world population.
